One of the most frequent questions we receive is: “Will MoboKey work with my car?”. The short answer is yes. MoboKey is engineered to be a universally compatible solution, successfully installed in over 10,000 vehicles across the globe. Unlike many manufacturer-specific apps that only work with the latest models, MoboKey’s hardware-based approach allows it to support over 90% of cars on the market today. MoboKey Car Brand Compatibility list is stated here.
Brands We Support (The 90% Rule)
MoboKey’s engineering team has designed our devices to interface with the electronic systems of almost every major manufacturer. Whether your car is from a Japanese, American, European, or German brand, there is a high probability it is compatible.
Popular supported brands include:
-
Japanese: Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, Mitsubishi
-
American: Ford, Chevrolet, GMC, Jeep
-
European: Volkswagen, Renault, Fiat, Proton
-
Korean: Kia, Hyundai
- German: VW
MoboKey Car Brand Compatibility: Beyond the Brand Name
MoboKey doesn’t just look at the badge on your grille. Our system is designed to work across various mechanical and electrical configurations:
-
Ignition Type: Compatible with both traditional Key-Turn Start and modern Push-to-Start buttons.
-
Transmission: Works seamlessly with both Automatic and Manual (Stick Shift) transmissions.
-
Safety Note: For manual cars, MoboKey includes a handbrake safety check to ensure the car only starts when it is safe to do so.
-
-
Age: MoboKey is a favorite for retrofitting older vehicles that lacked factory smart features, bringing them into the digital age.
Important Exceptions & Considerations
While we strive for 100% compatibility, there are a few select cases where installation is more complex:
-
High-Security Luxury Brands: Brands like BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Audi often use highly encrypted, proprietary electronic systems that can be difficult to bypass with standard aftermarket hardware.
-
Immobilizer Bypass: For most cars manufactured after 1998, an immobilizer bypass module (like Directed DB3 or Fortin EVO-ALL) is required if you want to use the Remote Start feature. This allows the digital key to “handshake” with your car’s security computer.
Why MoboKey is the Universal Choice
MoboKey’s compatibility is rooted in its flexible design. Our device connects directly to your car’s internal wiring—specifically the ACC, Power/On, and Starter wires. Because it uses Bluetooth to communicate with your smartphone, it bypasses the need for brand-locked cellular subscriptions.
