Overview
This guide will explain the basics of installing the device in any push-start type. You need to have a proper understanding of the car’s electrical system before installation. It is highly recommended to install this device through a trained car electrician.
There are two basic car types
- Key Start – Cars that require a key to be inserted in the keyhole to start the car.
- Push Start – Cars that are equipped with a smart key remote and a push start button.
This installation guide focuses on cars with push start / smart key modules.
Power:
Connect 1 to ground and 2 to a wire coming out of the car’s 12V battery.
Trunk:
Wire 3 should be connected to cars equipped with an electronic trunk release in a negative trigger.
Grip 2:
Any wire from grip 2 doesn’t need to be connected in push-start configuration.
Lock / Unlock Doors:
(Negative Trigger) (Standard Protocol)
The door power window module has a lock/unlock button. This button operates on -ve trigger. You need to find those wires by using a multimeter.
To determine the wires, shift the multimeter to
voltage. Connect one end of the multimeter to positive wire, and the other end to different connection points in the door module and press the lock button. The voltmeter would show a reading when the correct lock wire is determined.
Similarly, find the unlock wire with the same method of connecting the multimeter one by one to the wires and pressing the unlocking button simultaneously.
The grip 3 of the MoboKey module is for lock / unlock and indicators. Connect (10&13) (Pink) to Ground and leave (12&15) (Grey) floating.
Connect 11(Blue) to the unlocking wire. Connect 14(Blue) to the locking wire.
Make sure to check the connections by locking and unlocking it from a smartphone app.
There are two possibilities for connecting the wires.
- By opening the door trim and connecting MoboKey wires directly to the wires coming out of the power window module grip.
By tracing these wires back to the car column below dashboard on the door side and connecting wires there instead of opening the door trim. This method is highly recommended and is easier to implement in the long run.
Indicators:
Determine the indicator wires by using a voltmeter. Turn on the right indicator and connect the multimeter, with one end at the ground and the other end to the connectors. The voltmeter will give you a reading on the correct wire. Similarly, find the correct wire for the left indicator. Connect (8 & 9) (Yellow)wires form the MoboKey unit to the right and left indicators respectively.
You can also connect one yellow wire to the indicator flasher unit.
Remote Start Installation:
Brake Switch:
Locate the brake switch, above the brake pedal.
Mostly brake switches have four wires, you need to locate the two that results in the illumination of brake light when connected with the help of a multimeter. In most cases, purple white connect with positive constant and purple to positive brake.
Connect 21 & 22 from the MoboKey unit with the wires of the brake switch.
Push Start Button:
Take out the push start button. A couple of wires would come out of it.
There are two types of triggers for the push button. Some cars use negative and positive simultaneously.
For the negative triggers, find out by hit and trial. Connect one side of the voltmeter at positive and the other side at one of the connectors. Press the push button, the connector at which the meter shows reading is the negative trigger. Cut the wire and connect the 18 orange/black and 17 green/black to both ends of the negative trigger wire.
For positive triggers. Connect one side of the voltmeter at negative and the other side at connector pins one by one. Press the push button, the connector at which the meter shows reading is the positive trigger. Cut the wire and connect the 20 orange and 19 green to both ends of the positive trigger wire.
Some cars need both triggers as positive or negative. For both negative, you need to make the positive trigger as negative, cut the white 24 wire and connect it to 23 and use the positive trigger as the secondary negative trigger. For both positive, you need to make the negative trigger as positive, cut the white 23 wire and connect it to 24 and use the negative trigger as the secondary positive trigger.
Security:
Push Start cars do not need a security relay as the device has a built-in cut off for the push start button. The smart key gets disabled by smartphone app on demand. A smart key needs to be placed at a hidden place in the car to use the app for starting purposes.
